I just grabbed a little Geiger tree at a recent tree giveaway and planted it in my front garden.  It bloomed almost immediately and seems very happy to be part of my tribe.  These hardy trees are native to the Keys and the Yucatan and are named for one of Key West’s most prominant citizens of the early 19th century, Captain John H. Geiger.  John James Audubon painted white-crowned pigeons perched in a young Geiger tree in front of Capt. Geiger’s house in Key West (now the Audubon House) In 1832.  The tree is still there today!
